Rudy Frasca was one of three recipients to receive the first ‘CAT Pioneer’ award on May 2nd, 2017. The award was given by by CAT (Civil Aviation Training Magazine) during their annual WATS convention on May 2nd. John Frasca, current President of Frasca International accepted the award on behalf of his father Rudy.
The other two recipients of the award are Al Ueltschi (founder of FlightSafety International, awarded post-humous) and Dieter Harms, formerly the CEO of Lufthansa Flight Training. Each recipient will have subsequent awards named for him as part of an annual process designed to recognize those who have made a significant difference, and improvement to aviation training in the modern era.
The establishment of these awards was driven by the need to raise the profile of the civil aviation training community, populated by highly skilled and dedicated professionals. For decades this community has been fundamental to the extraordinary safety record of global commercial aviation.
