Upgrading your Frasca Simulator

By adding new components to your existing Frasca simulator you can operate efficiently and cost effectively well into the 21st century. Once upgraded, your device will be "nearly  new" at a fraction of the cost for new equipment.

The "Raptor" upgrade has become extremely popular. The term Raptor was first used by Frasca's software engineering group to denote the hardware and software technology that was utilized in our TruFlite products.  Features of Raptor technology include ethernet interface between computers, object oriented software design, enhanced six degree of freedom aerodynamics, enhanced ground handling, full world navigation simulation, and much more. While these technologies were originally developed for the TruFlite, it became possible to incorporate them into older Frasca simulators such as the Model 140's.  We now offer upgrades to 20 year old Frasca Model 140's that bring the latest fidelity to an old work horse.

Upgrade Components:

Frasca's Window's based Graphical Instructor Station (GISt) is the most advanced instructor station available in the commercial simulation industry. Instead of a keyboard and text based menus, GISt present graphical images to the instructors which permits more intuitive monitoring of and efficient interaction with the simulated flight. With GISt, the instructors workload is reduced; thereby allowing more time for instructing the student. This upgrade replaces the existing instructor's station (terminal, plotter, and desk) with a Pentium PC, color monitor, color printer and a new desk.

  • Host Computer Upgrade :

The host computer replaces the FTDs older central processing unit with a Pentium PC and Frasca's newest software. Upgrading the host is necessary to make it compatible with the newer software used within GISt. This updated configuration is the same as installed in our newly manufactured FTDs. Advantages include:

  1. Additional computer capacity

  2. Newer configuration allows for easy and efficient future upgrades of newly developed features and options

  3. Software upgrades are handled by disk, not EPROM's.

  • Digital Sound Upgrade

This realistic flight environment enables the student to transfer more of what they learned in the FTD to the aircraft. The following sounds are digitally generated: boost pumps, engine start, engien combustion, propeller(s), slip stream, environmental sounds, malfunction effects, aural warning tones, flap extension and retraction, tire screech and runway rumble.

  • Single Engine Conversion Kit upgrade (for twin engine devices)

This upgrade enables the FTD to simulate the performance of a single engine aircraft. Included will be an interchangeable throttle quadrant, masking panels to cover up the unused gauges and switches, and interchangeable flight software. With this upgrade, students can be trained on both twin and single engine operations using one FTD.

  • Avionics Upgrade

Frasca offers a variety of Avionics packages, including our newest simulated avionics package (SAP 100 - shown at right) which looks and operates very similar to the nav/com radio stacks that are installed in most modern aircraft. Upgrading your the stack allows for training on more modern nav/com radios which utilize digital, flip/flop frequency selectors and standby function and has full RNAV capability. Flight Director/Autopilot and GPS upgrades also allows for training on the latest navigational equipment such as the Bendix/King KLN 90B GPS.

  • Visual System Upgrade

TruVision offers realistic, textured scenes. A variety of display systems including; direct view, collimated, projected and multiple channels are available. Custom databases add to the realism. (see samples of visual scenes below - click on thumbnails to view.

  • Factory Refurbishment/Warranty

A factory refurbishment extends the operational life and increases the reliability of your FTD. Factory refurbishment includes repairing or replacing assemblies and components as needed, calibrating circuitry, cleaning and lubrication mechanical linkages and installing various service modifications. A warranty reduces downtime needed for repairs; therefore, the continued operation of the FTD is guaranteed. A yearly visit ensures that the FTD is maintained at the best of condition.  Multiple year maintenance contracts are also available.
