USAFA Celebrates Delivery of 8 T-6 FTDs - Dec.
2003
The United State Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO has
officially accepted eight Frasca T-6 simulators. The devices which were
installed at the facility over the past year, will be used to support cadet
aviation programs at the Academy and are intended to replace the aging T-4 IFT’s
(Instrument Flight Training devices) currently in use. The new devices are
equipped with three-channel projected FVS-200TX visual systems, Computer
Generated Instrumentation (CGI), and active control loading. In addition, they
are networked together and incorporate Mission Simulation to allow training in
certain combat situations. Full instrumentation and controls are provided for
two pilots in a side by side seating configuration.
All cockpit controls and instrumentation will be active in the
simulators and function as in the aircraft. The primary flight and navigation
instruments and engine instruments displays are modeled after those in the front
cockpit of the Raytheon T-6A. Other features include a Frasca designed
multi-channel digital signal processor (DSP) based high-fidelity sound system,
simulated radio communications and intercom equipment, microphone equipped
headsets for the pilots and instructors, visual data bases providing selected
coverage of the United States, Graphical Instructor Station and more.
Frasca International, Urbana, Illinois, manufactures flight
